PvP Basics on Battlegrounds

Should I heal? Should I DPS? Should I CC? What must I do?

The problem in battlegrounds this day and age, is that a big number of people don't really know what to do and just run around like headless chickens attacking anything that moves.

Before we start, let me tell you that winning a battleground awards alot more honor than just running around trying to kill other players. And ofcourse winning is alot more fun then losing.

Step 1 : Know the Playing field.
"Uhm sarge, I don't know where to go"
It doesn't really matter which BG you play, all of the battles take place on a field(map) and knowing the terrain will surely give you an advantage.
Always keep your eye on the map, knowing where your allies/enemies are, will help you decide on where to go next.

Step 2 : Don't run alone
"A dead player is a useless player"
Try to avoid running alone, this puts you at a disadvantage and leaves you open to stealth attacks from rogues and feral druids.
Too often you see a single ally running into a group of enemies only to die in a few global cooldowns later. If you are outnumbered, run away. This is not considered cowardly, this is considered smart.

Step 3 : Communicate
"INCOMING!"
Your teammates cannot keep their eyes on the entire playing field all the time, and letting them know of big threats helps coordinate your defense/attack.
Try to add info to your communication like : The approx number of incoming enemies, the location of attack and the direction of attack eg. "Inc LM 3x from farm"
This lets your allies know that there are three enemies closing in on the lumber mill from the farm side.

Step 4 : Know the BG Objectives
"OMG NOOBS, FORGET THE FLAG, GET BASES"
If you don't complete the objective, you can't win the battleground.
Enter any battleground, and you will see a couple/many of useless players just killing other players randomly, completely ignoring the main objectives.

Warsong Gulch : Protect the Flag Carrier, Slow/CC/DPS the enemy flag carrier/his support

Eye of The storm : The taking of bases has priority over the flag, it is best to get three bases first before going for the flag(best to send 5 players to each tower)

Strand of the Ancients : Defend your tanks and attack/bomb the walls if Attacking, Defend the walls/graveyards and attack the tanks if defending.

Arathi basin : Take and hold the bases, Never leave a base undefended and fight close to the flag(this gives more honor anyway)

Alterac Valley : This one is a bit difficult to follow the objectives, due to both sides rushing eachother's bases. Try to take and hold both mines and attack/defend the towers and graveyards.

Isle of Conquest : The Oil refinery and Quarry definately are the most important bases to hold, holding one of the two bases gives you 15% more siege damage and 30% if you hold both, this in turn helps your allies to break down their walls faster, and indirectly makes your walls last longer(meaning the other team is missing the 15 or 30% buff)

Battlegrounds are a real fun way of experiencing WoW PvP.
Play hard, Never give up, teach the inexperienced and most of all have fun.

Peace,
Senzaki
